Magnolia Fire Company receives New Rescue Tools with a grant for $55,000.00 Chief Paul Wolf saved the residents of Magnolia over $55,000.00 with applying for an available grant. The grant was put in for the replacement of our old air bags and rescue tools, our intitial request was for close to $95,000.00.
This grant was completed with the help of Mayor & Council along with the borough's financial department. A percentage of the grant has to be matched by our borough in order to get the paperwork started. We are trying to replace and update our aging equipment without burdening our residents. |

Magnolia Fire Company is completing renovations

The Magnolia Fire Co. recently was approved for a loan to allow us to finish our Fire Station. After more than 2 years we will be able to look at more than 2x4 studs, exposed rafters, and lights cords strung from the ceiling.
The work is being done by members to save as much as possible. We have a very dedicated group in Magnolia who can go from
firefighting to carpenters at any given time. We are being led by Deputy Chief Mike Wolf who is chairman of renovations he is the one making all this come together and become a reality.
The work being done now is to our main floor, that includes our Meeting/Training Room, and the completion of our TV/Bunkroom. Members have been volunteering their Sundays, Tuesdays, & Wednesdays to try and give us someplace we can call our own and be proud of.
Through the hard work of President Chris Merulla we were finally able to obtain our loan. Loans aren't easy to come by when our income is based on all fund raisers.
We have been actively scheduling hoagie sales, we hold our St. Patty's Day Social, we are currently sponsoring a raffle for Phillies tickets, 6 seats in Section 113 on the field and includes preferred parking, for a donation of $5.00 a ticket. See any member if you are interested.
We hope to have our project completed by the end of 2013 if our funds last. The next project is our Engine Room & Control Room. Some of this might only end up as a dream unless the economy changes. Funding or grants for Volunteer Fire Companies aren't easy for small towns like Magnolia.
Our volunteerism will not waver in any case, we will be there for our residents. We have been in business since 1893 and we are celebrating our 120th Anniversary on September 17th. There will be no celebration, other than thinking about and thanking all of our founding and past members who allow us to carry on a tradition they started.

Hurricane Sandy spares Magnolia from major damages.

The members of the Magnolia Fire Company dedicated over 2 days to serve the residents of Magnolia. Borough officials met on Saturday to discuss how they were going to handle Sandy and whatever she brought with her.
Mayor Betty Ann Cowling- Carson along with some council members met with Emergency Management, police, fire, and BLS to discuss a plan of action.
It was decided to use our fire station as it's command center. The fire house has an emergency generator to maintain operations in the event of a power outage. We also offered cooking, sleeping, and meeting facilities throughout the emergency.
A volunteer list was posted for duty/ sleepover crews, our members responded to our requests by having close to 20 signatures. It was such a success we were able to post crews on each piece of apparatus, this allowed rehab between calls.
It was set up so that 1 of the 2 station support vehicles would be sent out to investigate all incidentals and call for the appropriate unit to fit the need.
Members who were part of the duty crews brought their own air mattresses, cots, and sleeping bags. Some supplies were donated by residents to support meals and needs of all the volunteers. We would like to thanks those who supported us during this disaster.
One of our biggest issues took place along Warwick Rd. @ Jackson Ave. when a big oak tree uprooted and fell taking primary electric lines with it. The tree also took out local power to 1/2 of Magnolia's residents along with cable TV and some phone lines. (pictures below).
All in all we pulled thru Sandy with minor tree damage and flooding. Crews coned off danger areas, pumped out basements, and addressed alarm systems. Magnolia is lucky to have such dedicated men and women in Emergency Services serving the residents of Magnolia. The event lasted over 48 hours with the majority of the crews serving from start to finish.
The Chief Officers would like to thank all who sacrificed time away from their families and to the spouse's who supported our endeavour while away from home.

Over 30 Cookie Trays go out to Seniors

Louise and Jack at their home.
December 24th is a very busy day for the volunteers of M.F.C. The day starts out with delivering cookie trays to our Seniors in town. This has become a long standing tradition in which our members and families supply trays to make Christmas merrier.
Sandy, Jessica and I found 31 trays waiting for us. This program has been very rewarding. Some of the stories we hear when we meet our Seniors range from a thank you with hugs & kisses, to stories that make you cry. Some of our residents are very lonely during the holidays, so if you live near someone please show them we care about them. A visit or a phone call means so much.
One such story was a few years ago was when I found an elderly lady answering the door. She was unsure of what was to follow but she opened her door and I presented her the tray with candy canes and a Christmas card addressed to her from our members. She said thank you so much and preceded to say she was spending the holidays alone due to the fact that her family does not live close. She began to well up and said she never knew people cared enough to think of her, it made her holiday special.
So to the members of the Magnolia Fire Company, you continue to prove how awesome we are in serving Magnolia, Thank You!

Operation Santa 66 years of making memories!

Connor Ware with mom Jen drop off list to Santa
Every Christmas Eve since WW II (1945) our firefighters have gone out and put their own needs second to serving our towns children. We are known to be the first fire company to have the Christmas Eve Santa visit in their community. We have a tradition that starts at 3:00PM when we ask Santa to sit atop out 1951 Mack.
Santa puts his personal touch on our borough by riding the streets of Magnolia with members handing out candy canes along with special visits to our sick and shut in children. Speaking with some long time residents, they say their children and grand-children make it an ongoing tradition to come back to Magnolia on Christmas Eve.
In 1945 our firefighters had an idea to bring Santa Claus to the firefighters families whose Dads were off fighting in the war.
Gifts were brought in and given to all of the children and after the war it continued. As Magnolia grew they decided personal visits became impossible and they went to riding the streets handing out candy canes.
Mayor and council received our canes through a donation from our local Walmart. Today we go through up to 5000 candy canes and takes about 5 and a half hours to complete our mission.
We would also like to thank the families who opened their homes up to us with refreshments. They were Jim and Diane Brownlow, Paul and Cheryl Wolf, Marge Wolf, Tom McDonough, Brian and Betty Ann Carson, the Wilson's, Furniss', Millisky's, Hoban's, and ends at Tom and Jane Euler's.
This year Santa had a special Christmas list given to him at the station by Connor Ware and his mom Jen Ware (picture above) before we began. We also visited a child on Charles Rd. whose father is off serving our country and another visit was to the Marks family on Otterbranch Drive (pictured below) whose daughter Dottie has some ongoing medical issues. Those visits were so special to all involved that Santa said he will always make it his priority to come back to Magnolia on Christmas Eve.
If anyone has pictures of our fire company during any event from the past please contact us so copies can be made and posted on our website. We always see the cameras but we would like to see what we look like from your eyes. They can be dropped off any Wednesday night after 7:00 pm
Wishing everyone a safe holiday season from all of us!

Members give residents a funfilled day in Magnolia

Members of the Magnolia Fire Company
On Saturday October 6th we held our Open House for Fire Prevention at the Magnolia Recreation Center.
The day was perfect sun & warm temperatures which brought out our friends and neighbors. Our Open House offered displays, give aways, fire safety education, and refreshments.
A special vist from Finley the Camden Riversharks Mascot who brought smiles to many children. We hope everyone who attended enjoyed their day with the members of the Magnolia Fire Company.
Station 75 Runnemede Fire Co. was kind enough to lend us their Fire Safety House which was much appreciated. Thanks to all of our neighboring fire companies and to all those who sponsored different venues. A special thank you to Chief Wolf and all our members and spouses who worked so hard with me to pull this off.
